Challenges include interdependencies with other agencies, projects with multiple phases, weather delays, funding uncertainties, tight budget constraints &#8211; the list goes on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Oracle\u2019s legacy application, Primavera P6, is still one of the most well-known and well-used solutions for globally prioritizing, planning, managing, and executing projects, programs, and portfolios. However, P6 only has a few &#8220;What-If&#8221; options with limitations, inhibiting the user\u2019s ability to explore different paths toward project success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog, we outline how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.projectp.com\/products\/primavera-cloud.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"\">Oracle Primavera Cloud<\/a> (OPC) can help improve your project managers&#8217; ability to experiment with different scenarios for scheduling work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is &#8220;What-If&#8221; Scheduling?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>OPC&#8217;s &#8220;What-If&#8221; scheduling features are robust project planning and risk assessment tools. They allow users to save schedule versions, perform scenarios (what-ifs), and then merge those scenarios into the current schedule:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Project Schedulers can selectively update the schedules with changes performed in the scenarios.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Project Managers can take an existing schedule and create a copy to test changes without having to modify the active schedule.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>With these features, project managers can prepare and anticipate different situations, such as delays, and have the flexibility to act quickly on adjusting the active schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key &#8220;What-If&#8221; Scheduling Features in OPC<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Users can either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commit to the selected scenario as the &#8220;live schedule&#8221; and make the changes immediately.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Discard or archive the future scenarios, referencing them to compare the validity of the choices made.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s an example workflow:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Users have the ability to create a \u201cWhat-If\u201d scenario within OPC\u2019s Schedule Feature (after a project schedule has been created). Like baselines, scenarios require a source schedule, which can be either the current schedule, an existing scenario, or a historical schedule from the current project. It is simple and easy.
