Powell Industries has experienced significant growth over the past six decades, during which project management tools and processes have evolved dramatically. However, their current solutions have started to pose challenges.

Previously, Powell was using an on-premises version of P6 EPPM as its primary scheduling solution. Unfortunately, this setup no longer met their evolving business needs. The organization sought to upgrade to the latest SaaS version of Oracle Primavera P6 EPPM to benefit from enhanced features, gain immediate access to Oracle’s latest updates, improve scalability, and receive automatic upgrades on time. Additionally, Powell required the application to be reconfigured to align with their revised business workflows.

To achieve these goals, Powell needed an integrated solution that would enable them to streamline current processes based on project lifecycle management (PLM) best practices. This would drive more efficient project execution while adhering to standard project controls and generating industry-standard metrics. By implementing these improvements, Powell Industries aimed to increase productivity, revenue, and profit margins.

The required integrations included:

  • Primavera P6 EPPM (P6 EPPM) SaaS environment with the existing on-premises Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) system.
  • Integration of P6 EPPM with Microsoft Dynamics (MSD) interfaces.

The Solution:

Powell Industries engaged with Project Partners to assess its current PLM practices and supporting technology applications prior to the re-implementation of Cloud P6 EPPM. Project Partners collaborated closely with key business users and systems analysts to review existing scheduling and integration processes, providing strategic recommendations to optimize the application's configuration and fully leverage all of its capabilities.

As part of the solution, Project Partners implemented the proprietary OP3™ product to facilitate seamless bi-directional data integration. This integration allows for the transfer of enterprise data and actual transactions from Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) into P6 EPPM, while also enabling the flow of project and task structure, approved cost budget, approved revenue budget, and approved cost forecast from P6 EPPM back to EBS.

The design of the solution includes all existing applications and replaces the current P6 EPPM-EBS integration platform, and makes modifications to the MSD-P6 EPPM and P6 EPPM-Agile interfaces. The integration design supports both cloud/hosting options for the P6 EPPM application and on-premises installations.

Comprehensive support was provided throughout the process, including leading System Integration Testing (SIT), User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and overseeing a smooth cutover and go-live. Post-implementation, Project Partners delivered hypercare support to ensure system stability and user adoption.
